Miss Uganda’s C-Section-Inspired Gown Challenges Childbirth Stigma
Ugandan designer Mushirah Rabaab Abdallah created the “Layers of Life” gown for Miss Uganda, Muhoza Trivia Elle, at the 2026 Miss World Festival in Vietnam. The layered couture piece was designed to challenge the belief that women who deliver by Caesarean section took an “easy way out.” Its colourful layers represent the seven anatomical layers surgeons pass through during a C-section, from the skin to the amniotic sac. Abdallah and her five-member team spent about a month developing and producing the design. The gown has drawn attention online and encouraged women to share their C-section experiences. Its message focuses on the pain, healing and courage involved in surgical childbirth.
