Ghanaian Lecturer Shot Dead in Illinois as Wife Faces Charges
Kofi Akamani, a 48-year-old Ghanaian lecturer at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, was shot at a home near Lake Road in Jackson County, Illinois. Deputies responded to the incident at about 5 p.m. on Saturday. Akamani was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Akamani taught forest recreation and conservation social science in the university’s Department of Forestry. His wife, 35-year-old Betty Akamani, was arrested following an investigation and is facing multiple charges in connection with the killing.
