Kogi Parties Sign 2027 Peace Accord as Police Warn Against Electoral Violence

Twenty-one political parties in Kogi State have signed a peace accord ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to conduct peaceful campaigns and comply with electoral laws. At an electoral security meeting in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police, Nazir Bello Kankarofi, warned political actors against violence, intimidation, hate speech and other actions capable of disrupting the process. He said offenders would face the law. The police said they would identify threats early, intensify security operations and strengthen checks on unregistered vehicles. Political parties were also asked to submit campaign schedules and focus on issue-based campaigns. INEC said preparations were ongoing, including voter education, party engagement, staff training and logistics planning. Security agencies, religious bodies and party representatives attended the meeting.
