FAAC Revenue Sharing: Why Should Governors Bear All the Blame?
FAAC is the body that distributes federally collected revenue among the Federal Government, the 36 states and the 774 local councils. The current sharing formula allocates 52.68% to the Federal Government, 26.72% to states and 20.60% to local governments. I find it difficult when Tinubu and APC supporters insist that Nigerians should hold only state governors accountable for poor development. The Federal Government receives the largest share of the allocation, while the states divide a much smaller portion among themselves. Supporters often credit Tinubu alone for Lagos’ development, despite the contributions of earlier military administrators, civilian governors and the Federal Government. If every tier of government receives public funds, accountability should apply to all of them, especially the tier receiving the largest share.
