Imo Court Orders Speedy Trial of Five Suspects Over NYSC Members’ Kidnapping
An Imo State High Court has ordered an accelerated trial for five suspects linked to the kidnapping of 20 prospective NYSC members on Independence Day. Justice Emeka Orafu fixed October 27 to 30 for further hearings and urged both the prosecution and defence to cooperate so that judgment can be delivered before January 2027. The suspects will remain in DSS custody. A DSS investigator told the court that victims and witnesses identified three defendants during an identification parade. He said the investigation included intelligence gathering, data analysis, interviews and statements from suspects, victims and witnesses. The officer also testified that one defendant allegedly admitted involvement and said 11 people took part in the operation. The allegations remain before the court and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
