Tinubu Says Reform Era Is Over, Promises Shared Prosperity for Nigerians
President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria has moved beyond the difficult phase of economic reforms and into a new period focused on shared prosperity. He made the statement in his Independence Day address marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary. Tinubu said the government’s priority is now to reduce the cost of living, create jobs and make food, transport, education and other essential services more affordable. He cited economic growth, lower inflation, stronger foreign reserves, a steadier foreign-exchange market and higher non-oil exports as signs of progress. The President said the next phase will support farmers, manufacturers and small businesses through irrigation, fertiliser, mechanisation, storage, better roads, railways, ports, electricity, digital connectivity and access to credit. He also acknowledged that many Nigerians still struggle with food, school fees, healthcare and transport costs. He said social-support programmes would continue as a bridge while the government works to create broader economic opportunities and reduce poverty.
