Built on Christ: Understanding the Church’s True Foundation
Matthew 16:16-18 teaches that Christ Himself is the rock on which the church stands. In Greek, Jesus calls Peter “Petrus” (stone) but refers to Himself as “Petra” (rock), showing that the church’s foundation is the Lord, not any human leader. Prophetic passages reinforce this truth. Isaiah 28:16 calls Christ the precious cornerstone, and Daniel 2 describes a divine stone that shatters worldly kingdoms and grows into a mountain filling the earth—symbolizing Christ’s unbreakable dominion. Because the church is built on Christ, no power of darkness can overcome it. This is the certainty of our faith. Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing Christ as our sure foundation. May our faith remain firmly rooted in Him, and may His gospel and righteousness prevail in every heart, in Jesus’ name. Further Study: 1 Corinthians 3:11; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 Peter 2:4-6
