FCCPC Warns Businesses: Display Prices, Label Products Properly or Face Sanctions

FCCPC Warns Businesses: Display Prices, Label Products Properly or Face Sanctions

The FCCPC and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency have warned businesses to comply with rules on price displays, product labelling and customer refunds. Businesses that ignore the regulations may face compliance notices, fines, corrective orders or, in serious cases, closure of their premises. The agencies said prices must be clearly displayed in naira, while labels should accurately state a product’s identity, manufacturer, contents, expiry date and safe-use instructions. The requirements are especially important for food, medicines, cosmetics and household chemicals. They also stressed that “no refund after payment” notices do not override consumers’ legal rights. Customers may be entitled to repair, replacement or refunds where goods are defective, unsafe, unfit for purpose or different from what was advertised. The regulators urged businesses to train staff, review internal processes and treat consumer protection compliance as essential to building customer trust.

Will these rules make it easier for customers to compare prices and seek refunds when a product does not match its label?

Businesses can reduce trouble by reviewing shelf prices, product labels and refund procedures now, then keeping staff informed.
