Igbo Leaders Seek Probe After Reported Harassment of Peter Obi’s Convoy in Benue
Tension has followed reports that Peter Obi’s convoy was blocked and harassed by youths during a visit to Benue State. The incident has not been independently confirmed, and the Benue State Government had not issued an official statement as of September 10, 2026. Some Igbo community leaders and commentators have called for a police investigation, clarification from Benue authorities and an apology if the allegation is established. They also urged that a proposed meeting in Abia State should focus on dialogue and peace-building. The reported calls for retaliation against Benue indigenes in the South-East have drawn condemnation from legal experts and civil society groups. Any attack on a political figure should be investigated, but ethnic threats must be rejected and all Nigerians should be protected wherever they live.
