2027: Peter Obi Says He Would Retain Tinubu’s Naira Float Policy
Peter Obi says he would retain the floating of the naira if elected president in 2027, but would support it with policies that improve productivity and strengthen the currency’s value. Speaking during a television interview, Obi said the exchange-rate policy should deliver real benefits to Nigerians through increased production and economic value creation. The naira float was introduced in 2023 to allow market forces play a larger role in determining the exchange rate. It has also drawn criticism over inflation, the cost of living and declining purchasing power.
