How Young Nigerians Can Build a More Accountable Political Culture

This is a space for Nigerians, especially young people, who want to discuss practical ways to help rescue the country. We should focus on solutions, not insults, tribalism or distractions. Young Nigerians bear many of the consequences of decades of poor leadership and corruption. We need to move beyond arguments and begin asking what citizens can do to demand better governance. My first proposal is mass political education, with a focus on ideology. Many people judge leaders only by short-term projects or handouts, rather than by their principles, policies and record of accountability. We need citizens who understand and defend clear ideas about governance, federalism, secularism, social policy and public responsibility. When voters hold strong and fair political values, they can demand leaders who truly represent those values. That is how we can begin to build a better Nigeria.
