Rufai Oseni Calls NNPCL’s 30-Day Petrol Discount a Return to Subsidy
Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has criticised the Federal Government’s 30-day petrol discount at NNPCL filling stations, describing it as a return to fuel subsidy. Speaking on The Morning Show, Oseni argued that calling the measure a discount does not change its effect on NNPCL’s revenue. He questioned who would absorb the cost of reduced petrol prices and said the intervention showed the government could provide relief when it chose to. Oseni also questioned the timing of the measure, linking it to preparations for the 2027 general election. He credited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with pushing the debate over easing the burden of high petrol prices on Nigerians.
