120 Trafficked Nigerians Repatriated After Ghana Cybercrime Crackdown
A joint operation involving the EFCC, Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, Ghanaian authorities, the United States and the United Kingdom has disrupted suspected cybercrime networks in West Africa. Ghana repatriated 120 Nigerians who authorities said were trafficked and forced to work in suspected online fraud operations. The returnees are being profiled, counselled and supported through reintegration, according to NAPTIP. Authorities arrested nine suspects in Delta State and 19 others near Accra. Investigators seized phones, laptops, routers, vehicles and other equipment, while technology companies removed more than 3.7 million suspected fraudulent accounts. Officials also identified 117 suspected trafficking victims and about $11 million in funds that may be subject to freezing.
