US ICE Arrests Nigerian Caregiver Convicted of Assault in 74-Year-Old Patient’s Death
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested Obiageriaku Jane Iheanacho, a former Nigerian caregiver convicted of first-degree assault and vulnerable-adult abuse in Baltimore, Maryland. She now faces deportation proceedings. Iheanacho was sentenced in 2023 after a 74-year-old patient, Ellsworth Johnson-Bey, suffered a broken hip during an altercation at a care facility. Prosecutors said surveillance footage showed her striking and pushing him against a wall before he fell. Johnson-Bey later died, and the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide. The court sentenced Iheanacho to 25 years in prison, with all but seven years suspended. She also surrendered her nursing licence.
