Lawal Daura: Sycophants Betrayed Buhari’s Trust and Hurt His Administration

Former DSS Director-General Lawal Daura says the late President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded by sycophants who betrayed the trust placed in them and contributed to the failures of his administration. Speaking on a television programme, Daura said Buhari’s government began to decline after he left office in 2018. He rejected claims that he was part of a cabal around the former president, arguing that his duties as intelligence chief required close access to Buhari. Daura said public appointments should not be based solely on personal loyalty or friendship. According to him, trusted associates must also be assessed for competence and assigned roles that match their ability and level of responsibility.
