Bamidele Calls for Stronger Role for Women in Nigeria’s Governance

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele says Nigeria cannot reach its full potential unless women have meaningful opportunities to participate in governance, diplomacy, economic development and public leadership. Speaking at a book presentation in New York, he said gender inclusion should be treated as an investment in Nigeria’s human capital, not as a favour. He added that inclusion must go beyond appointing women to positions and give them real authority to shape public policy. Bamidele said the National Assembly, political parties, the diplomatic service, private sector, schools and civil society all have responsibilities to widen opportunities for qualified women. He also said stronger representation would improve Nigeria’s democracy and international engagement.
