Court Dismisses Aisha Achimugu’s ₦10bn Rights Suit Against EFCC
A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a ₦10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by businesswoman Aisha Achimugu against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Achimugu had challenged the EFCC’s search of her residence and the seizure of vehicles, jewellery and other items. She alleged that the actions violated her privacy and asked the court to restrain the commission from further harassment or invasion of her home. Justice M.S. Liman held that the EFCC was entitled to search her property after receiving intelligence about alleged criminal activity. The court found no basis for the damages sought, describing the suit as lacking merit and having been brought in bad faith. EFCC counsel Emenike Mgbemele said the ruling was in the interest of justice.
