In this fictional cautionary tale, I took in a black mamba and raised it as my pet. I fed it well, cared for it, and believed it had become my closest companion. One day, the snake stopped eating. A veterinary doctor examined it and warned me that it was not sick. He said the snake had begun to see me as food and was preparing to swallow me. I did not want to believe him, but I chose caution. I made a protective garment covered with sharp spikes and wore it to bed. One night, the snake swallowed me while I slept, but the spikes helped me escape from its stomach. The experience taught me a hard lesson: wild animals may retain their natural instincts, no matter how much care they receive. Caution is not fear.
