Colombia Seizes 7.6 Tonnes of Cocaine Hidden in Cane Sugar Shipment to Netherlands
Colombian authorities say they seized 7.6 tonnes of cocaine at the port of Cartagena in a shipment bound for the Netherlands. Police said the drugs were concealed in powdered panela, an unrefined cane sugar. The operation was carried out by the anti-narcotics directorate with support from the US Drug Enforcement Administration. President Abelardo de la Espriella described it as the largest cocaine seizure recorded at the Cartagena port in the past decade. Authorities estimated the shipment could have been worth more than $200 million in the Netherlands.
