Zamfara Community Guards Parade Nine Suspects Over Banditry and Ransom Claims
The Zamfara State Community Protection Guards, also known as Askarawa, have paraded nine suspects arrested in intelligence-led operations in Gusau and other parts of the state. The suspects include alleged bandits, informants, logistics suppliers, drug merchants, a suspected bandit doctor and a man accused of impersonating a legal practitioner. Officials said one suspect, Abubakar Malan Ori, allegedly confessed to operating with a bandit camp linked to Kachalla Gwaska across Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger and Niger Republic. The guards said the suspect disclosed that more than ₦226 million was collected as ransom from several kidnappings. Other suspects were accused of cattle rustling, supplying criminal gangs and treating wounded bandits. Authorities said they would be handed over to prosecuting agencies for further action.
