2027: NDC Support-Group Registration Sparks Rift With Obi-Kwankwaso Movement

A disagreement has emerged between the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and groups supporting its proposed Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket over plans to register and coordinate support organisations ahead of the 2027 election. The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement and Kwankwasiyya groups say they want to remain independent. They argue that backing the NDC ticket should not mean surrendering their leadership structures or being absorbed into the party. The NDC says its Directorate of Support Groups will handle registration from the party’s Abuja headquarters. Party officials say the free process is meant to coordinate groups working toward the election. While Obi-Kwankwaso Movement leaders have rejected any takeover of their structure, Kwankwasiyya and Obidient representatives have called for a framework that allows independent groups to work with the party without losing their identity.
