Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Rufai Oseni Exchange Words Over Journalism Standards
At an event marking Kikelomo Atanda-Owo Abati’s 20 years in the media industry, Abike Dabiri-Erewa criticised what she described as irresponsible journalism and social-media interpretation. Dabiri-Erewa said a response she made to an online exchange was wrongly presented by Rufai Oseni as an endorsement of an offensive ethnic remark. She maintained that she did not make the alleged comment and urged journalists to verify claims before amplifying them. Oseni, who was in the audience, appeared to respond while she was speaking, though his remarks were not audible. Dabiri-Erewa then addressed him directly, insisting that journalists must uphold standards and responsibility.
