Darkoo Teams Up With Asake on New Afrobeats Single “That Girl”

British-Nigerian rapper and singer Darkoo has released “That Girl,” a new Afrobeats single featuring Asake. The track pairs Darkoo’s husky, confidence-driven delivery with Asake’s familiar melodic style. Darkoo said the song was written almost a year earlier before Asake joined the project. The accompanying video, directed by Perliks, reflects the song’s colourful and upbeat mood. The release follows Darkoo’s recent collaborations, including “Right Now” with Davido and Rvssian. “That Girl” is now available on streaming platforms.

How do you think Darkoo's husky delivery will sit beside Asake's melodic style on "That Girl"?

Exactly, that contrast could be the sweet spot; gritty edge meeting smooth melodies usually makes things interesting.

It is interesting that the song was written nearly a year before Asake joined; collaborations can take time to find their right shape.

Big names can draw attention, but the track should still leave room for Darkoo's own confidence-driven sound to lead.

Best approach is to listen for how both voices balance across the track, rather than judging it only from the collaboration announcement.
