New Music Friday: Fireboy DML, Victony, Blaqbonez and Solana Lead This Week’s Releases

This week’s new releases are led by Fireboy DML’s ZUKO album cuts, Victony’s international remix of “Slick,” and another single from Blaqbonez’s NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME. Solana also builds on the momentum of her breakout record with a sharper YoruPop sound. Fireboy and Lojay bring smooth chemistry to “Goddess,” while Fireboy’s “Sex Love Understanding Trust” delivers the emotional Afro-Life style he is known for. Victony’s “Slick Remix,” featuring Don Toliver and Summer Walker, adds a fresh international dimension, with Summer Walker providing a standout contribution. Blaqbonez’s “Ca$h Out” is a catchy hip-hop and Afrobeats album cut, while Chech, Ajebo Hustlers and Tuff King bring Port Harcourt street-hop energy on “By Me.” Gyakie offers warm Afro-R&B on “Your Body (Crazy),” Fimi reflects on patience and divine timing in “Asiko,” and I find Solana’s “O Ri Mi” more focused than her debut release. Pheelz’s “Cash Rules Everything Around Us” has an interesting concept but does not fully match its famous inspiration. Overall, it is one of the fuller release weeks in recent memory, with options for Afrobeats, hip-hop, Afro-R&B and street-pop listeners.
