Matawalle Meets Global Defence Firms as Nigeria Pushes Local Military Production
Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle has met local and international defence industry leaders at the Africa International Defence Exhibition 2026 in Lagos. The meetings focused on partnerships, technology transfer and expanding Nigeria’s capacity to produce military equipment locally. Matawalle held talks with representatives from Türkiye, France, DICON-D7G, a DICON joint venture and other defence firms. He also toured stands displaying surveillance systems, tactical drones, cybersecurity tools and other defence technologies. The exhibition is expected to create opportunities for research collaboration and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on foreign military suppliers. AFRIDEX 2026 began on 26 October and ends on 29 October at Eko Atlantic, Lagos.
