Cyclist Rides from Ibadan to Abuja to Demand Land Use Act Reform Before 2027

Cyclist Rides from Ibadan to Abuja to Demand Land Use Act Reform Before 2027 — 1 of 2
1 / 2

I am undertaking a bicycle pilgrimage from Ibadan to the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in Abuja. I am calling on Catholic bishops to help Nigerians rethink the country’s political and economic foundations before the 2027 elections. My central argument is that the Land Use Act, introduced in 1978, limits secure land ownership and makes it harder for individuals, families and communities to use land as a basis for investment, partnerships and long-term development. I believe elections alone cannot solve Nigeria’s deeper problems unless this legal framework is reformed. I am advocating for a Private Property Charter to replace the Land Use Act and strengthen land and property rights. I will share updates and photos from different stages of the journey, scheduled from 20 to 29 August.
