Osun Election: Adeleke’s Second-Term Win Brings Fresh Demands for Delivery
Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term in Osun State after INEC declared him winner of Saturday’s governorship election. Adeleke of the Accord Party polled 511,067 votes, ahead of APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji with 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam received 17,180 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. The 66,252-vote margin points to stronger support than in the 2022 election, with observers citing infrastructure projects, workers’ support and the governor’s personal appeal. However, the poll was also marked by allegations of vote buying, inducement, BVAS challenges, delayed result uploads and isolated violence. Yiaga Africa said the declared outcome aligned with its projections, while raising concerns that vote buying could undermine voters’ choices. The renewed mandate now places greater responsibility on Adeleke to deliver improved infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, economic development and transparent public spending. For the APC, the result offers a reason to reassess its strategy while building on its significant vote share in the state.
