Tinubu Signs Historic Deal with Starmer to Deport UK’s Foreign Criminals to Nigeria
During President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to London, the UK Home Office announced a new agreement to deport visa overstayers, failed asylum seekers and foreign criminals to Nigeria. For the first time, “UK letters” will serve as travel documents to fast-track removals of migrants without passports. Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar had earlier rejected a US proposal to accept 300 Venezuelan prisoners, arguing that Nigeria has its own challenges to manage. His remarks followed the US State Department’s decision to limit Nigerian non-immigrant visas to single-entry permits. Tensions over visa restrictions continue. Many Nigerians still face hurdles obtaining student and tourist visas to the US, even as fans prepare for the next World Cup.
