Israeli Strike Kills Hamas Commander in Northern Gaza
An Israeli air strike has killed Izz al-Din al-Beik, identified by Palestinian and Israeli officials as the head of Hamas’s armed wing in northern Gaza. Al-Beik was killed when an apartment building in Gaza City’s Nassr neighbourhood was hit early on Tuesday. Hamas confirmed his death, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the military carried out the operation. A second person later died from injuries sustained in the attack, according to al-Shifa Hospital. The killing comes amid intensified Israeli operations against Hamas in Gaza. Hamas says the continued strikes undermine the US-backed ceasefire agreement, while negotiations over Hamas’s disarmament, Israel’s troop withdrawal and Gaza’s reconstruction remain unresolved.
