AI-Powered Jon Bon Jovi Romance Scam Costs US Woman $10,000, Account Traced to Lagos
A 55-year-old woman in the United States says she lost more than $10,000 after a scammer allegedly used AI-generated videos and a live call to pose as rock star Jon Bon Jovi during a 10-month online romance. She said the impostor first contacted her through an unverified account after she commented on Bon Jovi’s verified social-media page. After months of communication, he demanded payments for a supposed meet-and-greet, security clearance and an alleged security breach. A documentary team later traced the account’s IP address to a house in Lagos, though no suspect has been identified or arrested. Police have also recently announced arrests in separate alleged AI-enabled celebrity impersonation cases in Lagos.
