Sanwo-Olu Urges Restraint in Flaunting Wealth Online as Lagos Tackles Street Harassment
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says public displays of large sums of money on social media can draw unwanted attention and expose people to harassment by street criminals. Speaking at the Financial Times Africa Summit, the governor said no one deserves to be harassed. However, he urged influencers and other residents to be more restrained when showcasing wealth online. Sanwo-Olu said Lagos is pursuing a broader response to street harassment through skills training, social support, mental health services and action against criminal activity. He also said the state is developing a resident identity system to better understand residents’ needs, occupations and support requirements.
