Ortom Says Court Ordered Benue Government to Return 23 Seized Vehicles, Pay ₦5m
Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom says the state government under Governor Hyacinth Alia seized 23 vehicles that had been officially allocated to him after he left office. Ortom said he challenged the seizure in court and secured a judgment ordering the government to return the vehicles and pay him ₦5 million in damages. He described the action as part of an alleged witch-hunt against political opponents. He also accused the Alia administration of excluding key political stakeholders from state affairs. Ortom further alleged that local government chairmen are yet to have control of their funds despite the Supreme Court ruling on local government financial autonomy.
