Ex-Boyfriend Arrested for Alleged Orchestrated Acid Attack on 24-Year-Old Woman
Kenyan police have arrested Elvis Opiro for allegedly orchestrating a brutal acid attack on 24-year-old Mary Claire. Investigators say he hired an assailant who ambushed her on her way home and doused her with a corrosive substance, causing severe facial injuries. Members of the public quickly cornered the attacker as he tried to escape. An angry mob formed before officers intervened and took him into custody at Kibera Police Station. Mary Claire is now fighting for her life at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she is receiving specialized treatment. She had previously reported Opiro last November, but no action was taken until authorities laid a trap to capture him, according to a statement by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
