Why Shettima Has Yet to Move Into the ₦21bn Vice President’s Residence
More than two years after the official residence built for Vice President Kashim Shettima was commissioned in Abuja, the facility has reportedly remained unused as his residence. The project, located in the Three Arms Zone, was first awarded in 2010 for about ₦7 billion. It was abandoned for years before the FCT Administration completed it under Nyesom Wike. Its total cost has since been reported at roughly ₦21 billion. Shettima has continued to reside at Akinola Aguda House within the Presidential Complex. Security concerns have been mentioned as a possible reason for the delay, but the Presidency has not provided a detailed public explanation. Claims that he moved in and left because of hidden cameras have not been supported by credible evidence. The prolonged non-occupation has raised questions about the building’s security clearance, readiness for use and the cost of maintaining a residence completed with public funds.
