Group Petitions ICPC Over Alleged ₦1.5tn Budget Insertions Linked to Senator Adeola
The Pan-African Society for Social & Economic Change (PASSEC) has asked the ICPC to investigate alleged irregularities in project allocations in Nigeria’s 2023–2026 budgets. The group estimates that projects under review are worth between ₦1.2 trillion and ₦1.5 trillion. At a press conference in Abuja, PASSEC alleged that budget lines linked to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Solomon Adeola totalled ₦30 billion in 2023, ₦50 billion in 2024, ₦70 billion in 2025 and over ₦100 billion in 2026. It raised concerns about projects allegedly placed under agencies whose mandates appeared unrelated to them. The group cited allocations for Ogun State projects under the Federal College of Freshwater Fishery Technology in New Bussa and the Federal Cooperative College in Ibadan. It also alleged that 18 companies involved may share addresses and called for scrutiny of their ownership, procurement records, payments and the physical execution of projects. PASSEC stressed that its claims are allegations and urged anti-corruption agencies to conduct an independent forensic audit and establish whether any laws were breached.
