Lagos to Review Electricity Law as Private Power Projects Expand
Lagos State will review private-sector participation in its electricity market at the second Lagos Energy Summit on November 10 and 11, 2026, in Victoria Island. The meeting will assess progress under the Lagos State Electricity Law 2024 and explore new investment opportunities. Discussions will cover renewable energy, electricity infrastructure, decentralised generation and partnerships to improve power supply. The state aims to raise generation from less than 60MW to between 200MW and 400MW within the next two to three years. Several projects are underway, including the 26MW Akute Independent Power Plant, a 40MW Victoria Island power project and a 12MW plant in Ogba. Lagos regulators have also approved licences for off-grid, embedded-generation, metering and mini-grid projects across the state.
