Anambra Police Warn of Rising Motorcycle-Linked Robberies, Urge Proper Registration
The Anambra State Police Command has warned residents about an emerging pattern of robbery and other crimes involving motorcycles across the state. The warning follows recent incidents, including the arrest of a motorcycle rider allegedly found with a pistol during a stop-and-search operation in Nnewi. Police also cited the killing of a rider in Aguleri after he was reportedly attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and belongings. Police said unregistered motorcycles and poor ownership records make it harder to trace stolen vehicles or link them to criminal activity. Area commanders and divisional police officers have been directed to work with riders’ associations, community leaders and vigilante groups to improve documentation and intelligence sharing. Residents and riders have been advised to keep valid registration and ownership documents, report suspicious activity promptly and avoid confronting suspected criminals themselves.
