Grindr Agrees £26m UK Settlement Over Alleged Sharing of Users’ HIV Data

Grindr has agreed to pay £26 million to settle a UK lawsuit alleging that it shared users’ highly sensitive personal data, including HIV status in some cases, with advertising companies. The case was filed in April 2024 on behalf of about 12,000 users. If shared equally, the settlement could amount to roughly £2,167 per person. Grindr said the claims relate to its data practices before 2020, when the platform was owned by Beijing Kunlun Tech. The company denied liability but acknowledged the distress and loss of trust reported by some users. It will pay £13 million by the end of the year and the remaining £13 million by March 2027.
