INEC Opposes Atiku, ADC Bid to Amend Suit Seeking Tinubu, APC’s Disqualification in 2027
INEC has opposed an application by Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress to amend their suit seeking the disqualification of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress from the 2027 presidential election. Atiku and the ADC allege that Tinubu submitted a forged NYSC discharge certificate to INEC. They asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to bar Tinubu and the APC from the election. Tinubu and the APC deny the allegation and say no forged certificate was submitted. The plaintiffs want to correct errors in their court papers, including references to the relevant INEC form, add a written deposition, and provide clearer copies of exhibits. INEC argues that the proposed changes would introduce a new case and attempt to cure defects after the constitutional deadline for filing pre-election matters. INEC, Tinubu and the APC have asked the court to dismiss the suit, arguing that it is incompetent and that the plaintiffs lack the legal standing to bring it.
