I Mocked My Friend for Selling Coffins—Then His Business Boomed
Around 2014, while I was a student, I spent many holidays near a coffin-making workshop. I looked down on the carpenters and later turned down a chance to join the funeral business because I wanted what I considered cleaner work. I even teased a friend who went into it after graduating. Years later, he seemed to be doing very well. I connect the business’s growth to the rise in money-ritual stories and deaths, though I can’t verify that connection. My friend reportedly sold more than 500 coffins in six months and has since built a duplex. I now wonder what might have happened if I had joined him. I should add that I embellished parts of this story; it contains some elements of truth, but it is not a fully verified account.
