Expert Urges Customs PROs to Use Strategic Communication on Federal Fiscal Policies

Reputation-management expert Dr Jossy Nkwocha has urged Nigeria Customs Service public relations officers to adopt strategic communication in explaining and implementing federal government fiscal policies. Speaking at the 2026 Nigeria Customs Service Public Relations Conference in Port Harcourt, he identified key policies linked to Customs operations. They include the National Single Window, ease-of-doing-business reforms, the 4% Free on Board levy, export restrictions on endangered species and unprocessed timber, the 2026 tax laws, and the Authorised Economic Operator Programme. Nkwocha said effective planning, stakeholder mapping, clear messaging, budgeting, data use, monitoring and continuous learning are essential to building public trust. Customs National PRO Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada said the presentation aligned with the conference theme on using corporate communication to improve institutional effectiveness.
