Time to End Terrorist Rehabilitation and Embrace Retributive Justice
“A soul for a soul” demands that those who kill must pay with their own lives. This principle once went unquestioned. Modern states have softened it, but in Nigeria we see the consequences. Our leaders still negotiate with terrorists and even grant them amnesty. Meanwhile, victims suffer without support. It makes no sense to use taxpayers’ money to rehabilitate criminals while survivors of terror are left destitute. Recent resolutions in the Senate and House call for an end to the Operation Safe Corridor program. Lawmakers argue that kidnappers, bandits, and insurgents deserve the death penalty rather than rehabilitation. Killing terrorists may seem harsh, but data show that failure to enforce strict punishment has fuelled abductions and bloodshed. It’s time for Nigeria to restore true justice and protect its citizens.
