Shettima Delivers Tinubu’s UN General Assembly Address on Security, Climate and Africa’s Representation

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered President Bola Tinubu’s address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Nigeria renewed its call for Africa to receive two permanent seats on the UN Security Council, with full membership rights. The address also urged reforms to global financing and debt frameworks for developing countries. The President’s message highlighted Nigeria’s energy-transition plans, digital development and the African Continental Free Trade Area. It also called for stronger international cooperation against terrorism, illicit finance, cyberattacks and instability in the Sahel. Nigeria further called for diplomacy, humanitarian protection and inclusive political solutions to conflicts across Africa and other war-affected regions.
