22 Feared Dead as Bandits Ambush Traders and Soldiers in Zamfara
At least 22 people are feared dead after suspected bandits ambushed traders travelling under military escort in Zamfara State. The attack reportedly occurred early Sunday as the traders travelled from Gurusu to Gwashi for the weekly market in Gwashi, Bukkuyum Local Government Area. A resident said security personnel were among those killed. Several others were injured and taken to Bukkuyum General Hospital. The Nigerian Army and Zamfara State Police Command had not issued an official statement at the time of the report. Repeated attacks in Gwashi and Bukkuyum have disrupted trade and other economic activities in the area.
