Enugu Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Over Alleged Rape and Attempted Murder of Pregnant Woman

The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested 24-year-old Ugwu Desmond for the alleged rape and attempted murder of a 30-year-old pregnant woman in Affa community, Udi LGA, on the night of March 14, 2026. According to the police spokesperson, the victim was walking home from a neighbour’s house when the suspect, armed with a cutlass, ambushed and dragged her into an unfinished building. He reportedly threatened her, strangled her, forced himself on her and left her injured. The victim reported the attack at about 6:15 a.m. on March 15. Officers from Affa Division quickly arrested Desmond, seized the cutlass and stained clothing, and obtained his confession. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation and will arraign him in court once it concludes.
