Police Arrest Suspect Over Fake JAMB Registrar Contract Scam
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 32-year-old suspect in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, over an alleged online fraud scheme that used the identity and photograph of the JAMB Registrar to offer fake government contracts. Investigators said the syndicate allegedly demanded ₦900,000 and later ₦3 million from targets seeking a purported contract to supply 200 laptops. The money was reportedly directed to an account belonging to a man who died in April 2026. Police said the suspect was found with an ATM card linked to the deceased’s account and a SIM card allegedly connected to the scheme. Another suspect is still at large, while the arrested man may face charges including conspiracy, online impersonation, identity theft and cyber fraud. Nigerians have been advised to verify any contract offer or payment request made in the name of government officials through official channels before sending money.
