Kano Studies Lagos Model for Social Protection and Development Planning
The Kano State Social Protection Agency has begun a two-day learning visit to Lagos to study the state’s approach to social protection, development planning, data management and citizen engagement. Lagos officials outlined how the state coordinates social protection through a dedicated department, community structures and detailed local data. They also explained how residents’ priorities are gathered and considered during the budget process. Kano’s agency said it is still building the systems needed to coordinate social protection programmes effectively. The delegation hopes to adapt useful lessons from Lagos as it develops its own structures, improves service delivery and expands community participation.
