Atiku Tells Oba of Lagos: Nigerians Will Decide Aso Rock’s Occupant in 2027
Atiku Abubakar has responded to Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, after the monarch endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027. Atiku said there will be a vacancy in Aso Rock because the Constitution requires a presidential election in 2027. He maintained that traditional rulers may support candidates but cannot decide the choice of Nigerian voters. The former vice-president said the ballot box, not royal endorsements or party campaign councils, would determine the next president. He added that voters would judge leaders on hunger, insecurity and the rising cost of living.
