Umahi Says South-East Presidency Should Not Return to Anambra After Azikiwe
Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has argued that if the presidency is eventually zoned to the South-East, the candidate should come from Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia or Imo rather than Anambra. He said Anambra had already produced Nigeria's first president, Nnamdi Azikiwe. Umahi also criticised Peter Obi's 2023 presidential bid, saying South-East political leaders should have been consulted before an Igbo candidate entered the race. He questioned why Obi proposed a single four-year term when presidents from other regions had served two terms. According to Umahi, the region should first agree on its political strategy and decide whether supporting another region could strengthen its chances when the South-East's turn comes.
