Why Some Muslims Are Telling Politicised Clerics to Fear Allah Ahead of 2027

I believe Islamic scholars should guide society, teach moral values and speak truth to those in power. But some clerics are now being accused of using religious platforms to campaign for politicians ahead of the 2027 elections. I am not referring to every Islamic scholar. Many remain principled, defend justice and refuse to trade their religious standing for political favours. My concern is with clerics who allegedly endorse leaders while insecurity, kidnappings, killings and hardship continue to affect ordinary Nigerians. Religious leaders have the right to vote for any candidate, but pulpits should not become tools for political campaigns or divisive rhetoric. Voters should be free to choose leaders based on competence, justice and accountability, not religious pressure. My appeal is for the public to express its anger peacefully and for religious scholars involved in partisan politics to reflect on their responsibilities. We need leaders who serve Nigerians, not another cycle of failed rulers.
